The CD74HC4020 is a 14-stage ripple-carry binary counter with an oscillator input. It operates from 2V to 6V and provides 12 buffered outputs (Q1 to Q14, excluding Q2-Q4). The device includes a master reset to clear all stages. Typical propagation delay is 30 ns at 5V. Selection is suitable for high-speed frequency division and timing generation. Applications include frequency synthesizers for PLL circuits, time-delay generation in consumer appliances, digital clocks and timers, and counter circuits in industrial instrumentation requiring low-power CMOS logic.
