The MAX3243 is a 3-V to 5.5-V RS-232 line driver/receiver with automatic power-down and enhanced ESD protection. It features three drivers and five receivers, supporting data rates up to 250kbps. The device includes a charge pump requiring only four 0.1µF capacitors and features auto-power-down mode that reduces supply current to 1µA when no valid RS-232 signal is present. All RS-232 I/O pins provide ±15kV ESD protection. Selection is ideal for battery-powered serial communication requiring multiple channels. Applications include notebook computers, handheld instruments, PDAs, and battery-powered peripherals requiring RS-232 interface with power-saving features.
