The MAX3243ECPWR is an RS-232 line driver/receiver from Texas Instruments, consisting of three drivers and five receivers. It meets the requirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and provides the electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and the serial-port connector, matching the configuration needed for a typical PC/AT serial port. The device features ±15-kV HBM and IEC 61000-4-2 (air-gap) ESD protection, and ±8-kV IEC 61000-4-2 (contact) ESD protection on serial-port connection pins. A dual charge pump and four small external capacitors allow operation from a single 3-V to 5.5-V supply, with a maximum driver output slew rate of 30 V/µs and data signaling rates up to 250 kbit/s. The device includes auto-powerdown functionality for power management when the serial port is inactive, and an INVALID output to indicate presence of a valid RS-232 signal. Housed in a 28-pin TSSOP (PW) package, it operates over 0°C to 70°C. Applications include battery-powered equipment, PDAs, notebook computers, and any system requiring RS-232 communication with multiple drivers and receivers.
