The MAX3243E is a 3-V to 5.5-V RS-232 line driver/receiver with three drivers and five receivers, supporting data rates up to 250-kbps. It features a charge pump requiring only four 0.1-µF external capacitors, ±15-kV ESD protection on RS-232 pins, and an auto-powerdown feature that reduces supply current to 1-µA when no valid RS-232 signal is present. Packaged in a 28-pin SSOP (DB), it is ideal for battery-powered electronics, handheld instruments, PDAs, and point-of-sale terminals requiring multi-channel serial communication with low power consumption.
