MCP23008-E/ML MICROCHIP I/O Expanders

The MCP23008-E/ML is an 8‑bit I/O expander from Microchip with an I2C interface, housed in a 4x4 mm 20‑lead QFN package. Verify supply voltage from 1.8 V to 5.5 V to support both 3.3 V and 5 V logic; confirm the I2C bus frequency supports up to 1.7 MHz for high‑speed communication, with backward compatibility to 100 kHz and 400 kHz. Ensure the operating temperature range covers -40 °C to +125 °C. Each I/O pin can sink or source up to 25 mA and features interrupt‑on‑change with a configurable output pin to reduce MCU polling overhead. Three hardware address pins allow up to eight devices on a single bus, expanding I/O from 8 to 64 lines while a low standby current of 1 µA (max.) makes it suitable for battery‑powered designs.
