PCF8574N TI I/O Expanders

The PCF8574N is an 8-bit I/O expander for the two-line bidirectional I2C bus from Texas Instruments, packaged in a 16-pin PDIP (N) package for through-hole mounting. It operates over a supply voltage range of 2.5V to 6V and provides general-purpose remote I/O expansion for most microcontroller families via the I2C interface. The device features an 8-bit quasi-bidirectional I/O port (P0–P7), including latched outputs with high-current drive capability for directly driving LEDs. Each quasi-bidirectional I/O can be used as an input or output without using a data-direction control signal. Key specifications include low standby-current consumption of 10 µA max, open-drain interrupt output, 100 kHz clock frequency, and latch-up performance exceeding 100 mA per JESD 78 Class II. The PDIP package is ideal for prototyping, hobbyist applications, and designs requiring manual soldering or socket mounting. Housed in a 16-pin PDIP (N) package, it operates over -40°C to 85°C.
