The SN74HC240 is an octal inverting buffer and line driver with 3-state outputs, operating from 2V to 6V supply. It features two independent 4-bit buffers, each with its own active-low output enable pin. Outputs are inverting with high drive capability of ±6mA at 5V. Propagation delay is 12ns typical at 5V. The device provides low static power consumption typical of HC logic. Selection is ideal for bus driving in high-speed CMOS systems requiring signal inversion. Applications include memory address drivers with inversion, backplane bus interfacing, data bus inversion, and line driving in microprocessor-based systems for industrial and telecommunications equipment.
