The SN74HCS238 is a 3-to-8 line decoder/demultiplexer featuring Schmitt-trigger inputs for improved noise immunity and tolerance of slow or noisy input signals. It operates from 2V to 6V supply with typical quiescent current of only 100nA, making it suitable for low-power applications. The device provides ±7.8mA output drive at 6V and features three enable inputs (two active-low, one active-high) for easy cascading to 1-of-16 or larger decoders. When disabled, all outputs are forced low; when enabled, only the selected output is high while all others remain low. Selection is ideal for memory device selection and chip enable applications. Applications include memory address decoding, data demultiplexing in shared bus systems, peripheral selection for microcontrollers, and LED matrix driving in industrial controls.
