The SN74LS145 is a BCD-to-decimal decoder/driver featuring open-collector outputs capable of sinking up to 80mA. It operates from 4.75V to 5.25V supply and decodes 4-bit BCD (Binary-Coded Decimal) input to 10 active-low decimal outputs. The device is specifically designed for driving lamps, relays, and other high-current loads. Open-collector outputs allow connection to loads up to 15V. Propagation delay is 15ns typical. Selection is ideal for BCD decoding with high-current drive capability for load driving. Applications include LED and incandescent lamp driving for seven-segment and NIXIE tube displays, relay drivers in industrial controls, data distribution for BCD-to-decimal conversion in digital instruments, and peripheral selection in legacy 5V TTL systems requiring high-current sinking.
