The SN75ALS160DWR is an octal general-purpose interface bus transceiver from Texas Instruments, specifically designed for IEEE Standard 488-1978 (GPIB) applications . The device features eight bidirectional channels with driver outputs configurable for either passive-pullup or 3-state mode via the talk enable (TE) and pullup enable (PE) control pins . It uses high-speed Advanced Low-Power Schottky (ALS) circuitry, providing fast propagation times of 20 ns max and low power dissipation of 46 mW max per channel . The driver outputs can sink up to 48 mA for bus port loads, while receiver hysteresis of 650 mV typical provides excellent noise immunity . An active turn-off feature provides high impedance to the bus when VCC = 0, preventing loading during power-down . Housed in a 20-pin SOIC (D) package (12.8mm × 7.5mm), it operates over 0°C to 70°C . Applications include GPIB/IEEE-488 instrumentation interfaces, automated test equipment (ATE), data acquisition systems, and any system requiring high-speed bidirectional communication over the IEEE-488 bus with 8-channel capability.
