The THVD1406 is a half-duplex RS-485 transceiver featuring an innovative auto-direction control function that eliminates the need for a driver enable signal. It operates over a wide supply range of 3.3V to 5V and supports data rates up to 500 kbps. The device features a 1/8 unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 nodes on a single bus. It provides ±12 kV IEC ESD protection on the bus pins. The auto-direction feature simplifies isolation designs and reduces optocoupler count. Selection is ideal for applications where a separate direction control signal is unavailable. Applications include building automation, utility meters, HVAC controllers, and industrial sensor networks requiring simplified bus interface design .
