TIP122 ST Darlington Transistors
The TIP122 is a Darlington transistor from STMicroelectronics in a TO-220 package, featuring an NPN configuration with two internal transistors providing very high DC current gain (hFE of 1000 minimum) and a collector-emitter voltage (VCEO) of 100V. For selection, verify the continuous collector current (IC) of 5A, peak collector current of 8A, base-emitter voltage (VBE(on)) of approximately 2.5V at 3A collector current, and power dissipation of 65W. The Darlington configuration integrates base-emitter resistors and a speed-up diode, simplifying drive requirements from low-current logic outputs (TTL, CMOS, or microcontroller GPIOs) while driving moderate loads. Operating temperature range from -65°C to +150°C. Applications include relay and solenoid drivers, stepper motor drives, LED display and lamp drivers, small fan controllers, linear regulator pass transistors, audio amplifier output stages, and general purpose medium-current switching or amplification where high gain is required.
