The TRS3221E is a single RS-232 line driver/receiver with auto-power-down and enhanced ESD protection. It operates from 3V to 5.5V supply with a charge pump requiring only four 0.1µF external capacitors. The device features one driver and one receiver, supporting data rates up to 250kbps. Auto-power-down reduces supply current to 1µA when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the driver is inactive. All RS-232 I/O pins provide ±15kV ESD protection (IEC 61000-4-2). Selection is ideal for battery-powered portable RS-232 applications with space constraints. Applications include PDAs, handheld instruments, GPS receivers, and portable diagnostic equipment requiring single-channel serial communication.
