The TRS3221EIRGTR is a single-channel RS-232 line driver/receiver from Texas Instruments, operating from a single 3V to 5.5V supply. It meets or exceeds the requirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU v.28 standards, and operates at data signaling rates up to 250 kbit/s with a maximum driver output slew rate of 30 V/µs. The device features ±15-kV HBM and ±8-kV IEC 61000-4-2 (contact) ESD protection on RS-232 pins. The charge pump requires only four 0.1µF external capacitors for operation. Key features include a low standby current of 1 µA typical, auto-powerdown function that automatically disables drivers for power savings when no valid RS-232 signal is sensed, and an INVALID output that notifies the user if a valid RS-232 signal is present. Housed in a 16-pin VQFN (RGT) package, it operates over -40°C to 85°C. Applications include battery-powered equipment, PDAs, notebook computers, and any system requiring single-channel RS-232 communication with low power consumption.
